Air Conditioners in Johnston, Rhode Island
Rhode Island summers are short and they arrive all at once, which is when everybody goes looking for a unit on the same weekend. We carry room air conditioners and PTAC through-the-wall units — the kind that go into apartments, additions and small commercial spaces. Sizing matters more than the badge: a unit that is too big cools the room fast and leaves it clammy.
New, used and reconditioned on the floor. We repair air conditioners too — any brand, and in-shop estimates are free.

A photograph of the shop, not of a listing. Used and reconditioned machines are one of a kind, so the unit you buy is the one you looked at.
Air Conditioners — what we sell, and what we repair.
Stock turns over week to week, so the honest split is this: the first list is what was last confirmed on the floor, the second is the full range that comes across the bench.
Confirmed on the floor
- Window / room air conditioners
- PTAC units
Types we work on
- Window unit
- Through-the-wall / PTAC
- Casement or slider window unit
- Portable floor unit
- Heat-pump PTAC (cools and heats)
Measure first. Then argue about the badge.
The things that decide which one fits your house, in the order they usually come up at the counter.
Match BTUs to the room — roughly 20 BTU per square foot, then adjust up for sun, high ceilings, or a kitchen.
An oversized unit short-cycles: the room gets cold and stays humid.
Check the window type first. Double-hung, casement and slider windows each take a different unit.
PTAC units slide into a wall sleeve. If a sleeve is already in the wall, match its dimensions exactly.
Most window units run on a standard 120V outlet, but the large ones need their own 240V circuit.
Clean or swap the filter monthly during the season — it's the single most common cause of weak cooling.
We repair air conditioners, too.
Any brand, whether it came from us or from somewhere else ten years ago, and in-shop estimates are free. These are the faults that come across the bench most often — if yours is on this list, get it looked at before you replace anything.
- Blows air but doesn't cool
- Coil icing over during normal running
- Water leaking indoors instead of draining out the back
- Fan motor noisy, slow, or not starting
- Compressor won't kick on — capacitor or start relay
- Control board or remote sensor failure
- PTAC unit tripping its own breaker or cord protector
Not sure whether it is worth repairing? That is the question a free in-shop estimate answers, and we will tell you when the answer is no.
Ask about a specific machine.
Prices are set at the counter on the actual machine, so a phone call is the fastest way to get a real answer on a real unit instead of a range that means nothing.
